Compare purchasing options

Plate splices are recalculated for each stock length. Studs and headers remain single pieces. These are practical packing comparisons; they do not prove a global minimum.

Before ordering or cutting

This is a layout and lumber takeoff. Enter header sizes, stud spacing, plate layers and support counts from the framing detail for your project. Structural capacity and fastening are not calculated.

  • Headers use the selected actual depth and ply count. Engineered headers, steel, hangers, blocking, fire stops, sheathing and corner returns require separate quantities.
  • Verify field dimensions, straight stock and the specified connections before using the cut list.

Cut lengths follow the actual profile

Sloped plates retain their true thickness perpendicular to the board. Studs beneath them have distinct long and short points; a stud crossing a gable peak keeps both top angles.

Openings change the support grid

Kings, jacks, headers, sills and cripples replace the repeating studs around each opening. The drywall handoff checks vertical joints against these actual support lengths, including gaps through the opening.

Use the specified framing detail

This version models built-up solid-lumber headers and packed wall ends in elevation. Shared opening packs, engineered header products, bracing, intersecting walls and load design need their own detail.
