Request a quote Estimate surface boards and basic layout quantities before ordering. Choose the board direction, actual dimensions, stock length, joist spacing and waste allowance.
Material estimate
Full-length courses, consistent spacing, square deck edges, two face fasteners per board at every support line, and no picture frame, breaker boards, stairs, fascia, blocking or structural beam/post package. Complex patterns and board-length combinations require a cut plan.
How it works
Count coverage first.
Then account for real waste.
Board courses
The calculator divides the dimension across the boards by the actual board width plus the selected gap, rounding up to a complete course.
Stock quantity
Total lineal footage is the number of courses multiplied by the board run. Waste is added before dividing by the stock length and rounding up to whole boards.
Framing note
The joist result is a spacing-layout estimate only. It does not size joists, beams, posts, footings, connections or cantilevers. Confirm the full structure using the code, material span information and approvals that apply.
Estimate before buying—not instead of planning.
Verify the real deck dimensions, board profiles, manufacturer-required spacing and fastening, available stock lengths, pattern, cut plan and structural design. Order quantities can vary with defects, colour matching, joins, border details and supplier packaging.
