Use the total for the correct scope

The top dimensions describe the selected run. Materials for all runs combines every valid run and shows the lowest headroom in the project. Open Run schedule to check each run’s finished length, width, drop and clear height.

Framing member lengths lists net parts. Board, Stud or Track stock breakdown shows how those parts are assigned to purchase lengths. A run that is out of bounds, overlapping or otherwise invalid pauses the whole drawing and takeoff until corrected.

Review stock before treating it as an order

Wood allocation includes a ⅛-inch saw kerf and reuse of suitable length offcuts. Steel keeps studs and track separate and assumes snips with no cutting loss. Neither mode adds spare framing stock automatically.

Long side rails, ledgers or longitudinal tracks may be split at stock lengths for budgeting. Vertical and bottom pieces stay whole. Work out supported joints, connections, building attachments and additional backing separately; add end trimming, defects and spares to the order.

Treat drywall as an area allowance

The estimate counts the underside, one or two exposed sides and any selected closed ends. It applies the entered drywall allowance once, divides by the selected 4-ft-wide sheet area and rounds up across the project.

This is not a nested sheet-cutting plan. Narrow strips, access restrictions, end joints and unusable remnants can change the sheets required. Sketch the actual strips and their support before ordering. The selected thickness and framing spacing must suit the panel and assembly instructions.

In the 14-ft example with two faces, 32-inch finished width and 12½-inch frame drop, the modelled area is 66.5 ft² before end caps. With a 15% allowance and 4 × 8-ft sheets, 66.5 × 1.15 ÷ 32 rounds up to 3 sheets.

Check corners, prices and omissions

Outside corner bead counts the modelled exposed lower edges and closed-end corners. Purchase quantities round each edge to 8-ft lengths instead of assuming every small remainder is reusable. Intersections and wall junctions need their own finishing detail.

Enter local CAD prices for each whole stock board or steel profile, drywall sheet and 8-ft bead. Zero means unpriced here. The subtotal covers only the categories with prices; it is not a complete total while a category remains unpriced.

Tax, delivery, labour, anchors, fasteners, additional backing, access panels, insulation, tape, compound and paint are separate. Review adjoining runs so shared faces or corner details are not purchased twice.

Keep an editable file and a field copy

Enter a Project name and choose Download project. The .ucbulkhead.json file preserves room dimensions, positioned runs, wood or steel selection, bottom position, finishes and prices. Use Open project to restore it on another device. Older files retain their original wood underneath framing.

Recovery saves the last valid draft in this browser for the signed-in account. It is not a shared cloud project or a substitute for downloaded copies. If another tab changes the draft, keep a download before choosing which tab should write recovery.

Print plan provides drawings and the material summary. Save an editable project as well, and use names such as Basement — option A — 2026-09-23 so the printed plan and quoted order refer to the same revision. New bulkhead or Open project may offer to download current changes before replacement.
